Graduating from Principia College in 2004, Shawn ventured into coaching football and baseball at the collegiate level, concurrently serving as a Strength and Conditioning Academy in Oklahoma City. His professional journey led him to Principia School, where he took on roles such as physical education teacher, strength and conditioning coordinator, and coach for football, basketball, and baseball. Following stints in Dallas, Texas, at Greenhill School and TbarM Academy, Shawn assumed the position of Athletic Director at Levine Academy. Currently in his 9th year as the Athletic Director at Principia, he is driven by his love for coaching high school-age kids and witnessing their joy, passion, and coachability.
Shawn's coaching philosophy is rooted in positivity, energy, and a player's coach approach, guided by core values of Grit, Family, and Honor. What sets his coaching apart is his unwavering belief in each student-athlete's limitless potential, fostering their growth through love and encouragement.
He chose to coach at Principia because of its rich history and emphasis on character and spiritual growth. He sees an opportunity for Principia to excel in nurturing student-athletes, developing character, and achieving success on and off the scoreboard. His impact extends to all students, with a notable success story involving a legally blind child gaining confidence by catching a flyball after dedicated coaching efforts.
Outside of coaching, Shawn's interests include reading books on coaching, leadership, and management, with a top priority being spending quality time with his family. Drawing inspiration from the wisdom of John Wooden, who said, "Success is peace of mind, which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming," and the words of Mary Baker Eddy, he highlights the significance of pursuits and the spirit manifested in revealing our standpoint and victories.
